How long does it take to become fluent in Russian? 0 votes. I'm a native English speaker and my goal is to develop fluency in spoken and written Russian. I think I can study for 3+ hours a day. I want to hold my own in any conversation, have accurate pronunciation and be able to read newspapers and books without a dictionary. Unfortunately, I'm not living in a Russian-speaking country and I... I speak Russian well enough to teach other languages in it, read it and touch-type in it, but have difficulty understanding spoken Russian unless it's spoken directly to me.
